I’ve finally started the construction on my studio out here in NOHO. When finished the tracking room will be 17′x 19′ with 10′ ceilings. The control room is 20 x 14 with vaulted ceilings.
There will also be 2 iso booths, one in the live room and another behind the control room. The first is a pentagonal shaped ‘vocal booth’ that can actually fit a drum-kit if needed and the other is a smaller vocal/amp iso.
I’ve got the goods too. Plenty of equipment; tons of mics and outboard gear and a bunch of instruments.
Mirror Traffic, by Steven Malkmus and the Jicks (Joanna Bolme, Mike Clark and Jake Morris) will be released Aug 23rd. I worked extensively on this album from start to finish and can vouch for its greatness. In addition, that same Tuesday August 23rd, they will be playing live at Amoeba at 6pm. The first 250 purchasers of Mirror Traffic willget an exclusive poster available only at the Amoeba in-store. The show will also stream live on Amoeba.com for your viewing and listening pleasure. ENJOI!!
On Tuesday, May 24 Matador Record will debut ‘Demolished Thoughts’, produced by Beck Hansen. This is the the 4th solo album from Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore.
Here’s a single that was released last week on NPR. Enjoy!!!
In addition to Thurston on guitar and vocals, other players included violinist Samara Lubelski, harpist Mary Lattimore, bassist Bram Inscore, drummer Joey Waronker and Beck.
Myself, along with Cole Greif-Neill did most of the tracking, which was done all to 1/2″ tape. The record was then mixed by Darrell Thorp. It reminds me a bit of Lou Reed with some Donovan like chamber-group orchestrations added in at times.
I’ll be playing saxophone with Demo Team this Sunday night at 8pm with THE MEEK and Cat Power (aka Chan Marshall) at the Music Box. If you haven’t been to this theater or seen either of these bands then you should really check it out. The show is already sold out but there’s a slew of people on Craigslist selling tickets.

I played on a lot of this record. I’d like to see these guys finish it. It’s going to be a 40-something-song epic. See the video and visit their site. They’re currently looking for donations. I donated. A $20 donation will get you a pre-order of the album itself.
Happy new year 2011 everyone. I’m thrilled that we’re still here and that none of the multiple prophesies of the Armageddon came true. I guess we’ll have the Atlantis resurface in 2012 and planet Nibiru’s return to look forward to. Or, according to some there’s a sooner must-see in early 2011
I had the opportunity last week to play congas on stage with Beck, Devendra Banhart and Caetano Veloso at the MOCA gala celebration/benefit in downtown LA as part of Doug Aitken’s ‘We’ concept piece. They played a great show and ended up raising over a million that night, I believe… Tons of coverage on the net.
There should be some footage up online sometime soon.
Hi, a band I support and play with is releasing their next album, 2 years in the making, entitled “Trimurti.” The album consists of over 3 hours material. I contributed drums, tabla, percussion and woodwinds on this release. I suggest you visit their website and see what they have to offer.
